“What’s that word I can’t understand in the title of this blog post?” I hear you exclaim.
‘Yспех’ is the Russian word for ‘Success’ and this was our fun little way of letting you know that simply just attending the fantastic G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance in Moscow this year was simply not enough for Culture Group.
Sadly whilst we haven’t been given the go ahead to remake possibly one of the greatest Bond films of all time, we did have a rather exciting time in June when we traveled to Moscow to attend the G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance Annual Conference.

I was on the train last week and it was one of those classic examples where the carriage is relatively quiet and you are happily minding your own business until you pick up on a conversation in the seats behind you.
No matter how hard you try not to listen you get drawn in. As a conversation of high comedic value ensued I chuckled silently to myself and wished I had someone to share it with.

The idea of telling stories has been around for a pretty long time. I don’t want to start going into dates (mostly because I don’t know them), but rest assured, it was a pretty long time ago that the first story was told. We’re talking well over three years ago. Quite possibly even more than that.
Over the last few weeks I have read numerous articles about a new clothes store opening in London this week. There have been stories placed in key media and I have registered with their site to be kept up-to-date with happenings in the run up to the launch. I recently moved away from London and always feel like I am missing out when these London only stores are opening, so today I was excited to receive an email that said, while the store opens tomorrow:

After reading numerous articles about Google’s ‘Ingress’, the augmented reality, multi-player game that uses Google Mapping, we’ve been pondering the future of social gaming.
Players of ‘Ingress’ find themselves wedged in a war between two factions, the Enlightened and the Resistance, over what to do with a new energy discovered in the world. Not an original concept, but what makes brings Ingress into the topic of ‘The Future of Social Gaming’ is the way in which you ‘play’ the game, a mix of geo-caching and teamwork. Very conveniently all of the notable landmarks in your hometown have become these new sources of energy and it’s your job, as either one of the Enlightened or Resistance, to put down your PS3 controller or iPad and actually walk, yes walk, to these ‘energy sources’ and ‘hack’ them for your faction.

One of the most inspirational figures to come into contact with us recently was Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Seen here meeting our Founder & CEO Glynn Pegler, the Archbishop gave his views on how to inspire more people to create positive change. The Archbishop is currently involved with Sir Richard Branson on the Elders project and a number of socially entrepreneurial endeavours. He came to the UK specifically to meet Welsh based social entrepreneur Angela Gorman, an incredible lady we’re only too pleased to have offered previous advice to, who founded an initiative that is saving lives in Africa on a daily basis.

I tend to share most of my professional content through Twitter. I like the limitations it puts on me with the short form content. I also like the fact that I can test lots of different messaging variations due and measure their impacts in a really short amount of time.
I often test content formats on my personal Twitter before applying the same rules to client strategies. Which, though varying in success, has led me to some really interesting insights. But that’s for another blog post. Today I thought I’d share my favourite Twitter Management Tools.
At Culture Group we believe that the message is one of the most important parts of any marketing campaign. We thought we’d share a few tips with you on how to develop marketing messages that help us to focus before working on a new campaign. Hopefully they’ll help you too! Read more →
I’m always surprised by how many organisations neglect personas within their marketing plans. Or if they do implement them, they’re locked away in a drawer. I tend to plaster mine on the wall, surrounding them with the packaging of brands they like and post-it notes with quotes from surveys. By doing this I’ve learned a three simple lessons that I think are worth sharing:
1. Make Some Assumptions About Users
I tend to start with a really broad persona template (you can download my personal favourite here). I then write what I think I know about a user. I don’t limit myself to knowledge I have, I try to put a lot of ‘meat on the bones’ and method act my way around their thinking. For instance, if I’m working on a consumer brand, I’ll spend some time in a supermarket picking up the packaging of rivals. Trying to figure out what their motivations are.
So Christmas in once more upon us and that guarantees us one thing – a deluge of Christmas advertising vying for our attention and stand out in this fast paced, multi-media world.
